The Source of Purpose

The chain of thoughts continued from the previous post, "Love in relationships"

https://observationwithawareness.blogspot.com/2025/12/love-in-relationships.html

What is the source of the purpose? Is it coming from "I" or "You", or is it coming from a land far distant where "I" and "you" have never travelled? Both "I" and "you" will have thousands of experiences. Each one of them will have their unique childhood conditioning and experiences. They would have created hundreds of mental stories around the meaning of life. Each one would be very convinced of their mental stories. If the purpose of life comes from the life experiences of mental stories they have told to themselves, then the strength of the relationship will just depend upon their common conditioning. The more they have in common, the childhood experiences, the mental stories, the way they look at life, their motivations, ambitions, and life goals, the more they will gel together. Yoy scratch my back, and I scratch yours.

If this purpose is coming from the domain of the unknown and both are equally attracted towards that and are willing to drop their conditioning, just to tune into that frequency, then it's very special. We had such a great relationship among many freedom fighters who fought for the freedom of the country. Their relationship was not founded on some common purpose to satiate their senses or to pursue some ambition in the domain of the known. All of them were equally desperate to fight for freedom. Freedom from the known shackles that the British Government has tied them to. They wanted to think freely and live freely. That common purpose united them to the extent that they would choose to give their lives rather than reveal the whereabouts of the fellow freedom fighter.

Any purpose in the domain of the unknown reveals itself slowly. When Sri Aurobindo and the Mother came together, they would not know, with clarity, the roadmap. When we drop the domain of the known, that reveals slowly. In the morning, we listen to the sounds from a distant place, because there is not much noise on the roads. There is no traffic, and the people are not honking. The mixer grinder is not making noise in the kitchen. Utensils are not being washed. Mind is also not making chit chat with numerous thoughts. That's why it is easy to listen to the chirping of the birds at a distant place. It is all the easier to listen to noise at a distant place in a forest. We may do so in a forest even in the noon. Similarly, our lives are so full of thoughts and mental stories in the domain of the known that it is almost impossible for us to tune in to the frequency from the domain of the unknown. Mostly, we ignore the same and become busy with the chit-chat of our minds and give that the name of "intelligence".

That's not "intelligence". Rather, that's "stupid". The same mental stories are being repeated again and again. How can the mind, with its limited experiences and exposure, understand the world? A boy reads a few books on human anatomy in his 2nd standard and becomes confident that he knows everything about the human body. He can debate with the doctor and may get frustrated that the doctor does not understand him. That's just an ego trip. To understand the signals from the unknown domain, we have to make ourselves still and silent. We have to just understand the limitations of the ego. We have to just look at the cosmos and the quantum to realise that the "poor ego" knows nothing. That gives rise to curiosity. That curiosity connects us to the domain of the unknown. The stronger that realization that "how little we know" and the greater the curiosity, the stronger our connection to the domain of the unknown. In that state of silence, the receptive minds get to listen to the chirping of the birds from a distant place, and once that listening happens, everything looks crystal clear.

Why life is so stressful?

The present-day society is the most comfortable in the entire history of humanity. We have invented machines to carry out work at home, have built highways, can fly conveniently across countries, have comfortable homes, have information of almost every kind at our fingertips, and also have AI to help us make use of the information. Advances in robotics have made many apparently impossible tasks quite easy to perform. Yet, so many countries are at war, people are suffering from psychological disorders, depression, there are broken relationships everywhere, and people are under tremendous stress. What has gone wrong in the process? Why is development not bringing happiness? Because we have chosen "comforts" over "growth". Because we have chosen "fear" over "love". Doesn't that sound strange? Why would somebody choose "fear" over "love"? Probably, we are not aware of it while making these choices. Our unconscious mind process...

A Comfortable Life full of Fears

Why did Buddha reject the offer of a comfortable life as a prince from his father? Why do most people grab such an opportunity? Why do most people struggle all through their lives to get such a comfortable life? It is because most people can't see what Buddha could see. That is exactly why Buddha wanted to tell the secret to the entire world.  Buddha asked questions to his charioteer about disease and death. He could have closed his eyes to the suffering of the people and sat happily inside his palace. But he enquired into the nature of death and diseases, the old age and pains thereof. He asked whether anyone can avoid suffering, and came to know that it is not possible to avoid the sufferings of old age, diseases, and death. He was determined to find a solution and therefore delved deeper and deeper into the nature of suffering and its source. His inner journey revealed the secrets that he shared with the whole world. The real cause of suffering is ignorance.  We form ...

A "home" decorated with "bonsai"

Somebody gifted a plant sometime back. When I look at the plant on the Table, it appears to me as if the plant had the potential to grow into a big tree, but we confined the little plant within the limits of the pot, and it has grown strangely. It has a thick stem but has small leaves and branches. We have designed the plants to look the way we like. What "I" want is more important than what the "plant" is. The plant will grow the way "I" like it to grow. And then, "I" would also claim that "I" love the plant.  Yesterday, I went to a coaching institute to get some test series for a competitive exam for my daughter. The guide there spoke for around 40-45 minutes on the risks and chances of getting selected in different competitive examinations. So much competition. Fear is instilled into the minds of the students from the very beginning. Everything is around fear. If they are not able to get enrolment in a professional course , they wi...
