Vibhishana: "Ghar ka bhedi" or "Ram ka Saathi"

"Ghar Ka Bhedi Lanka Dhae" is a very famous proverb. Vibhishana has become a synonym of deception in many families, and whenever a member of the family does not come up to the expectations of the family members and refuses to follow the rules of the family, people often use this proverb. It does not matter whether the rules of the family are justified or not, fair or not. If all the family members want to take dowry for the marriage of the son, and the son files an FIR, everybody would title him as "Ghar ka Bhedi". In a gang of criminals, if one of them feels guilty and tells the police about the activities of the gang, he will be termed "ghar ka bhedi".

But Vibhishana is not concerned whether the "ghar" remains or gets demolished. He has taken the path of truth. What people see as demolition, he sees as reconstruction. Demolition is necessary for reconstruction. Anyhow, it does not matter to him what happens to the home. Because once Vibhishana meets Rama, everything else becomes irrelevant. Once somebody realises the truth, nothing matters. When Arjuna's chariot is driven by Krishna himself, it does not matter how Arjuna prays to God. That is what Krishna wants to tell the people of Brija. They are so particular about the method of praying to Indira. They feel that Indra will become angry if they do not pray to him with rituals. Krishna tells them that it does not matter when they are with Krishna.

Vibhisana can meet Rama, and all his doubts will be over after meeting Rama. Arjuna too will not have any doubt after meeting Krishna. People of Brij also will not doubt because they have Krishna with them, and Krishna will save them from the anger of Indra by raising Govardhan mountain. What about Meera? What about Buddha? Where will they find Krishna or Rama? They found Krishna and Rama inside them. However, for that inner Rama to talk, we have to leave inner Lanka. The inner Lanka comprises three Rakshasas. Kumbhakarna, who represents laziness. He used to sleep for 6 months at a stretch and would not get up even with the sounds of Nagadas. Our laziness does not allow us to take even the first step in the direction of awareness and creates all types of doubts. The second inner Rakshasa is Meghnatha. Meghnatha is also Indrajeet. Our ambitions are very powerful and help us win over all our senses. Ambitions make us very focused, and that's why ambitious people are so fixated on their ambitions that they ignore the truth. The third Rakshasa is Ravana itself. Ravana is a symbol of knowledge. With knowledge comes ignorance. Knowledge, if disconnected from consciousness, has tremendous power to separate us from the truth.

Most people have arrogance about what they know and believe in. Ravana had a very strong belief in what he knew within his limited framework. He will not allow Vibhishana to speak and will insult him at every step. Vibhishana would try to tell him the truth time and again, even after being insulted again and again. Yet, when Vibhishana leaves Ravana, Vibhishana will be blamed for being "Ghar ka bhedi" because "ghar" is at the centre of existence for most people and not "Rama". For those who have Rama at the centre of their lives, "ghar" does not matter. Vibhishana left "ghar" to meet Ram. He told the secrets to kill Ravana. Arjuna also fought against his own teachers and grandfather. When somebody holds on to the truth, "ghar" does not matter. Vibhishana will always be "ghar ka bhedi" for those who have "ghar" at the centre of their lives. On the other hand, he will be a hero and a source of inspiration to those who have Rama at the centre of their lives. Of course, Vibhishana will never be a favourite of people who have "ghar" at the centre of their lives. When somebody has truth at the centre of his life, he will very well understand that it is not the duty of Vibhishana to make Ravana happy. Vibhishana will pray to Rama even while in Lanka. He will keep telling the truth to Ravana till he is in Lanka. He has love and compassion for Ravana, too; at the same time, it is not "blind love", rather it's love with wisdom and awareness.

Why life is so stressful?

The present-day society is the most comfortable in the entire history of humanity. We have invented machines to carry out work at home, have built highways, can fly conveniently across countries, have comfortable homes, have information of almost every kind at our fingertips, and also have AI to help us make use of the information. Advances in robotics have made many apparently impossible tasks quite easy to perform. Yet, so many countries are at war, people are suffering from psychological disorders, depression, there are broken relationships everywhere, and people are under tremendous stress. What has gone wrong in the process? Why is development not bringing happiness? Because we have chosen "comforts" over "growth". Because we have chosen "fear" over "love". Doesn't that sound strange? Why would somebody choose "fear" over "love"? Probably, we are not aware of it while making these choices. Our unconscious mind process...

A Comfortable Life full of Fears

Why did Buddha reject the offer of a comfortable life as a prince from his father? Why do most people grab such an opportunity? Why do most people struggle all through their lives to get such a comfortable life? It is because most people can't see what Buddha could see. That is exactly why Buddha wanted to tell the secret to the entire world.  Buddha asked questions to his charioteer about disease and death. He could have closed his eyes to the suffering of the people and sat happily inside his palace. But he enquired into the nature of death and diseases, the old age and pains thereof. He asked whether anyone can avoid suffering, and came to know that it is not possible to avoid the sufferings of old age, diseases, and death. He was determined to find a solution and therefore delved deeper and deeper into the nature of suffering and its source. His inner journey revealed the secrets that he shared with the whole world. The real cause of suffering is ignorance.  We form ...

A "home" decorated with "bonsai"

Somebody gifted a plant sometime back. When I look at the plant on the Table, it appears to me as if the plant had the potential to grow into a big tree, but we confined the little plant within the limits of the pot, and it has grown strangely. It has a thick stem but has small leaves and branches. We have designed the plants to look the way we like. What "I" want is more important than what the "plant" is. The plant will grow the way "I" like it to grow. And then, "I" would also claim that "I" love the plant.  Yesterday, I went to a coaching institute to get some test series for a competitive exam for my daughter. The guide there spoke for around 40-45 minutes on the risks and chances of getting selected in different competitive examinations. So much competition. Fear is instilled into the minds of the students from the very beginning. Everything is around fear. If they are not able to get enrolment in a professional course , they wi...
