Creative Destruction

Why do so-called "intelligent" people behave so stupidly? Do they understand their stupidity? Why would an intelligent person like Ravan behave so stupidly that he would kidnap Sita like a coward? Why would an intelligent person like Bhishma not be able to understand such a fundamental difference between being loyal to a person and being loyal to a kingdom? Which kingdom did he protect due to his vow? Why would such an intelligent human race deny the existence of consciousness when they don't know anything about life and death?

What is so special about "intelligent" people? They can think of a solution that "others" are not able to think of. That means the USP of "intelligent" people is "awareness". They are more "aware" as compared to others. "Awareness" as a result of "past experience" or "keen observation". Ravana read all the scriptures, and he knew all the Vedas and could defeat any person in a debate. He was also very vigilant while fighting the enemy and could play tricks on his enemy and deceive him. However, all his awareness was limited to the domain of the known. Human beings, too, have championed the world of technology and have developed wonderful products using that knowledge. We have developed bullet trains and jet aircraft; mobile phones, and AI; vaccines and diagnostic kits; artificial limbs and a wide variety of genetically modified seeds. Science of the day is well aware of the quantum as well as the cosmic world. It is constantly making new discoveries by gaining more and more awareness every day.

So what's wrong with this? Then why would Ravana behave so stupidly? It is because the obsession with the championship makes us blind to the reality outside our playground. The champion of cricket may not have even fundamental awareness of science. The champion in the field of science may lose even basic awareness of life skills. We, as humanity, are so obsessed with "development" that we may lose sight of the fact that "depression" and "mental disorders" are on the rise and have given rise to a new pandemic. We are so obsessed with new discoveries and inventions to make our lives comfortable that we have lost sight of the cosmic world. Working day in and day out in air-conditioned offices, we have lost sight of the ground reality. Ravana also lost sight of the higher consciousness because of his arrogance in championing the limited world, which he was aware of.

That's what happens with most intelligent people. They champion the frame they operate in, but lose awareness of the wider reality. That's what has happened to the science of the day. It does not know why electron behaves like wave and a particle. It has no clue as to why electrons stop behaving like a wave and start behaving like a particle, the moment they are observed. It does not know what lies outside the solar system, while the solar system is just one of the trillions of such systems in the universe. Why would any person who hardly knows anything about the cosmic as well as quantum scale be so arrogant? In fact, it should be just curious to know and keep enquiring. However, surprisingly, science also gets into the "intelligence trap" and rejects the idea of "consciousness". It appears that "rejection" is a universal defence mechanism of the "weak" and "ignorant". By rejecting reality, a "weak" and "ignorant" person feels shielded inside their frame. That's why their behaviour appears so stupid to a person who observes them from outside that frame. The false confidence of having championed the frame makes them commit the stupidity of rejecting the wider reality.

On the other hand, some people have not championed any frame and yet reject the wider reality. That's because they survive on herd mentality. The majority of the herd believes in something, and the minority does not have the courage to challenge the same. Even if minority challenges their worldview, they are outrightly rejected and at times even ridiculed. Such people live comfortably with such a herd mindset. Thus, both the losers and the champions shield themselves inside their limited frame. Knowing beyond that limited frame is dangerous. Till the time a "Gali ka Gunda" is confined to that street, he is happy. The moment he steps out of the street, he gets to know that nobody recognises him. That's why he feels comfortable staying inside the street and rejects the existence of the world outside that street. However, each one of us will have to evolve, either by choice or by compulsion. Old age, diseases, loss of family members, natural disasters, and relationship crises, are all different ways and means of the consciousness to force us out of that safe and secure frame so that we get to see the wider reality and grow accordilngly. Even the 2025 Nobel Prize for economics has been given for creative destruction. Innovation is not possible unless the old is creatively destroyed. An "intelligent" person will always creatively destroy his "comfort zone" created as a result of "being a part of the herd", or "having championed a limited frame", and dare to enter into the domain of the unknown. That makes life fulfilling.

Why life is so stressful?

The present-day society is the most comfortable in the entire history of humanity. We have invented machines to carry out work at home, have built highways, can fly conveniently across countries, have comfortable homes, have information of almost every kind at our fingertips, and also have AI to help us make use of the information. Advances in robotics have made many apparently impossible tasks quite easy to perform. Yet, so many countries are at war, people are suffering from psychological disorders, depression, there are broken relationships everywhere, and people are under tremendous stress. What has gone wrong in the process? Why is development not bringing happiness? Because we have chosen "comforts" over "growth". Because we have chosen "fear" over "love". Doesn't that sound strange? Why would somebody choose "fear" over "love"? Probably, we are not aware of it while making these choices. Our unconscious mind process...

A Comfortable Life full of Fears

Why did Buddha reject the offer of a comfortable life as a prince from his father? Why do most people grab such an opportunity? Why do most people struggle all through their lives to get such a comfortable life? It is because most people can't see what Buddha could see. That is exactly why Buddha wanted to tell the secret to the entire world.  Buddha asked questions to his charioteer about disease and death. He could have closed his eyes to the suffering of the people and sat happily inside his palace. But he enquired into the nature of death and diseases, the old age and pains thereof. He asked whether anyone can avoid suffering, and came to know that it is not possible to avoid the sufferings of old age, diseases, and death. He was determined to find a solution and therefore delved deeper and deeper into the nature of suffering and its source. His inner journey revealed the secrets that he shared with the whole world. The real cause of suffering is ignorance.  We form ...

A "home" decorated with "bonsai"

Somebody gifted a plant sometime back. When I look at the plant on the Table, it appears to me as if the plant had the potential to grow into a big tree, but we confined the little plant within the limits of the pot, and it has grown strangely. It has a thick stem but has small leaves and branches. We have designed the plants to look the way we like. What "I" want is more important than what the "plant" is. The plant will grow the way "I" like it to grow. And then, "I" would also claim that "I" love the plant.  Yesterday, I went to a coaching institute to get some test series for a competitive exam for my daughter. The guide there spoke for around 40-45 minutes on the risks and chances of getting selected in different competitive examinations. So much competition. Fear is instilled into the minds of the students from the very beginning. Everything is around fear. If they are not able to get enrolment in a professional course , they wi...
