There is a book just in front of my eyes titled "Are you thinking clearly?" written by Miriam Frankel and Matt Warren. I read a few chapters of the book. It's about gaps between perception and reality. We have been blessed with senses such as eyes and ears. We listen to so many sounds. We keep talking to our friends, colleagues, and people in general, almost the whole day. We see a lot of things around. We make sense of the world based on these inputs. Our brain processes the data and makes a meaning of reality. Each one of us has a very different worldview. Surprisingly, everybody is quite convinced of his worldview. But what is reality?
The activities of the brain are centred around the flow of electrons. Electrons are particles (or waves, nobody knows) which is made of more fundamental particles. All fundamental particles are products of the Higgs field. Can electrons, which are the product of the Higgs field, ever understand the field? Can a computer ever understand the human brain, which has created the computer, to the fullest extent? Obviously, the computers will get to understand only that much of the human brain that the human brain wants to reveal. Since our eyes are sensitive to light, we can see any object that reflects light. But we can not see anything smaller than photons because photons will not be reflected by such small particles. Similarly, anything that is finer than the electrons is very difficult to understand. That's why thoughts, too, have a limitation.
If not using the thoughts, how do we get to experience reality? To the best of my understanding, consciousness operates at the level of the field. It's beyond electrons to understand the reality at the level of the field. But the fact of the matter is that electrons are also comprised of the same field. The same field gives rise to fermions and bosons, which are the building blocks of these electrons. That's why what happens within the electron is already known to the field. Electrons are like waves in the ocean. The waves can't understand the ocean because the ocean is beyond their comprehension; however, the ocean very well understands the waves.
Why would the ocean try to understand itself through the waves? Why would "we" try to understand ourselves through the brain? The brain is too limited to fathom the depths of our being. In fact, the combined human brain has not yet understood whether an electron is a wave or a particle. The combined brain of humanity has not been able to know where the thoughts are stored inside the brain. It has not been able to understand pain and has not been able to find a solution to pain. It has not been possible to know where we have come from and what happens when we die. Where do we go post-death? Reality can be understood when we observe in a witness state. When we are in a witness state, we are like the consciousness or field. We see the movements of thoughts. We also witness sensations in different parts of our bodies. The moment we observe the electron, it behaves like a particle. Otherwise, it behaves like a wave. Similarly, the moment we identify with the body or thoughts, we lose that awareness of "I" being "consciousness", and we start reacting to the situations. That's why we can experience reality only in a witness mode, where we do not identify with any thought.
