Living Healthy in a Cancerous Society

Sometimes we get to meet some people and interaction with them even for a few minutes sucks our energy for the entire day. They are so grossly unreasonable that probably our body and mind get shocked at the gross unreasonableness and they take some time to recover from that shock😉. I wonder why these people become so unreasonable. Probably, it's a deadly mix of incompetence, a very low level of understanding of life, and also a chance to occupy high positions of authority.

Ravana was very unreasonable but he too had only two of these factors. He occupied a very high position of authority and had a very low level of understanding of life. But he was quite competent and occupied the position of authority by his competence. Since he did hard work for that he appreciated the people who had the capacity and could do hard work. Similarly, Vali too was highly competent and occupied the position of authority by his competence.

People who occupy the highest of positions by sheer luck or manipulation can never appreciate competence. The value of a diamond can be understood only by a jeweler. Dhritrastra never understood the value of Vidura. Hiranyakashyap did not realize the goodness of Prahlada. I feel that when people make one or the other demonic qualities the center of their lives, they lose appreciation for all the angelic qualities. A gang of dacoits will not appreciate philanthropy. A gang of "bad boys" dancing to a loud DJ will not appreciate a person playing flute. Loud arguments have no space for logic. People blinded with the shine of money and powers have no respect for sacrifice. Selfish people can't appreciate the value of selflessness.

Why is it so that "Bad boys" are not disturbed by the presence of "good boys" while the "good boys" get disturbed?  It is because the "bad boys" have defined their world in a very limited way and slowly become insensitive to the rest of the world. On the other hand, the "good boys" have love and affection towards other people, the systems, and the organizations. That is why "bad boys" remain unaffected so long as their "limited world" is safe and secure. They are happy so long as they get the credit for the work and it does not matter to them whether the work is actually good for the organization or not. They are happy so long as their positions are protected and it does not matter whether the decisions they take will prove to be disastrous for the organizations. They are happy so long as they can "use" others for the perpetuation of their self-interest and in the process others may fall ill or even die.

Sensitivity may appear to be a curse. However, insensitivity is like cancer which eats away the entire body slowly and gradually. The cells of cancer eat away the entire body and finally get burnt or buried with the body itself. So long they keep eating away the body, they enjoy the party. The good cells of the body keep struggling to protect the body and in the process become quite sad when they realize that the cancer cells have taken over the body. So long they live, they keep fighting. We do not really know whether the growth of cancer is a result of our lack of awareness and efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle, a result of our past karma, or due to the mighty cancer cells. Autophagy is an answer to the problem. We need an army of hungry cells that can eat away the cancer cells. Nature has magically provided us with an answer to all the problems of the society. We just need to shift to minimalism. Once we learn to appreciate the beauty of minimalism, these "cancerous people" automatically lose their value and positions in society. That is what Mahatma Gandhi did to the British. He did not "possess" anything that could be snatched by the British away from him.

Why life is so stressful?

The present-day society is the most comfortable in the entire history of humanity. We have invented machines to carry out work at home, have built highways, can fly conveniently across countries, have comfortable homes, have information of almost every kind at our fingertips, and also have AI to help us make use of the information. Advances in robotics have made many apparently impossible tasks quite easy to perform. Yet, so many countries are at war, people are suffering from psychological disorders, depression, there are broken relationships everywhere, and people are under tremendous stress. What has gone wrong in the process? Why is development not bringing happiness? Because we have chosen "comforts" over "growth". Because we have chosen "fear" over "love". Doesn't that sound strange? Why would somebody choose "fear" over "love"? Probably, we are not aware of it while making these choices. Our unconscious mind process...

A Comfortable Life full of Fears

Why did Buddha reject the offer of a comfortable life as a prince from his father? Why do most people grab such an opportunity? Why do most people struggle all through their lives to get such a comfortable life? It is because most people can't see what Buddha could see. That is exactly why Buddha wanted to tell the secret to the entire world.  Buddha asked questions to his charioteer about disease and death. He could have closed his eyes to the suffering of the people and sat happily inside his palace. But he enquired into the nature of death and diseases, the old age and pains thereof. He asked whether anyone can avoid suffering, and came to know that it is not possible to avoid the sufferings of old age, diseases, and death. He was determined to find a solution and therefore delved deeper and deeper into the nature of suffering and its source. His inner journey revealed the secrets that he shared with the whole world. The real cause of suffering is ignorance.  We form ...

A "home" decorated with "bonsai"

Somebody gifted a plant sometime back. When I look at the plant on the Table, it appears to me as if the plant had the potential to grow into a big tree, but we confined the little plant within the limits of the pot, and it has grown strangely. It has a thick stem but has small leaves and branches. We have designed the plants to look the way we like. What "I" want is more important than what the "plant" is. The plant will grow the way "I" like it to grow. And then, "I" would also claim that "I" love the plant.  Yesterday, I went to a coaching institute to get some test series for a competitive exam for my daughter. The guide there spoke for around 40-45 minutes on the risks and chances of getting selected in different competitive examinations. So much competition. Fear is instilled into the minds of the students from the very beginning. Everything is around fear. If they are not able to get enrolment in a professional course , they wi...
