Desperate to cling or Free to Fly

I feel that insecurity is the root cause of almost all the problems in this world. Insecurity manifests in many different forms. Some people become insecure about money, some about relationships, and some about their careers and jobs. However, there is a fundamental insecurity behind all these masks. That is a lack of awareness of the meaning of life. Till the age of around 6-7 years, we are least concerned about the meaning of life and we are bust exploring life as it comes. But by the time we reach 7-8 years of age, society pushes us off the balcony where we feel safe in the custody and protection of our parents. Now we have to compete in the class and the whole of the world is sitting in judgment. We are falling freely off the balcony and desperately looking for one or the other support.

In the process of falling, we see many things that we try to take support of. We come across many friends and we magically form a bond with them. It looks so good and relaxing to share our thoughts and insecurities with them. But then friends move to different places, marry, and get busy with their families. In some cases, as the relationship grows, we realize that we have grown in quite different ways and our intersection has squeezed to quite a limited percentage of our lives. While falling free, we try to get the support of a life partner, marry, and have kids. That's one of the biggest supports for most people and most of us settle our lives with our families. Different occasions in life make us realize the limitations of the support of family such as the loss of a family member, or terminal disease, or moving away of the kids on their journey.

Most of us try to take the support of career and job while falling free. We make our job our life and make the lives of people working with us a living hell😊. That leads to constant conflicts. Some still want to reach their home in time because they give primacy to spending time with their kids while some, whose kids have moved away have nothing other than their office in their lives, like to spend more and more time in the office. Generally, the people sitting at the top of the organization develop a fixation on their offices and want to remain 24*7 in their offices and the people in the middle of the hierarchy typically want to spend more time with their kids and that becomes a reason for constant conflicts. Anyhow, this fixation too can't last beyond 60 years of age most most people and that's why retirement becomes such a nightmare. People become desperate to do anything to get a few more years of oxygen.

While falling off the balcony, we seek security in different things in life. Some seek security in power and fame. Some seek security in knowledge and information. However, we all end up missing the larger purpose of life which is to learn to fly. However, for learning to fly, we need to give away the fixations with everything. A bird needs to leave his nest to fly. When we send our kids to school for the first time, they are the ones who cry a lot but once they realize the fun of school, they leave even parents for their studies. That's what happens to all of us when the almighty tries to show us a different frame of life. We cry a lot and curse Almighty. Once we enter into a different frame of life, we start appreciating that new frame.

I feel that if somehow we can develop the capacity to see through their frames of lives and understand that all the frames are just frames. Somebody may be fixated on the frame of money, somebody on family, and somebody on power. At the end of the day, all these frames are just frames and if we do not drop them, one or the other day, the frames will drop us. It's just the mental fixation we need to drop. Krishna was married and served his kingdom as a king. So did Rama and Janaka. No realized person has run away from this world. This is the stage on which each one of us has to perform. The difference is that the realized souls do not get typecasted as a hero or a villain. They perform like versatile actors who can take up any role. They will give their best in the role of a hero, villain, side role, or even while providing the music, or background voice. Krishan did not fight the battle of the Kurukshetra and yet maneuvered the entire battle. Once we become aware of our fixations, the fixations get dropped automatically and we become free to navigate life and perform whatever role is assigned to us by life. Once somebody tastes freedom, it's almost impossible to be confined to a frame.

Why life is so stressful?

The present-day society is the most comfortable in the entire history of humanity. We have invented machines to carry out work at home, have built highways, can fly conveniently across countries, have comfortable homes, have information of almost every kind at our fingertips, and also have AI to help us make use of the information. Advances in robotics have made many apparently impossible tasks quite easy to perform. Yet, so many countries are at war, people are suffering from psychological disorders, depression, there are broken relationships everywhere, and people are under tremendous stress. What has gone wrong in the process? Why is development not bringing happiness? Because we have chosen "comforts" over "growth". Because we have chosen "fear" over "love". Doesn't that sound strange? Why would somebody choose "fear" over "love"? Probably, we are not aware of it while making these choices. Our unconscious mind process...

A Comfortable Life full of Fears

Why did Buddha reject the offer of a comfortable life as a prince from his father? Why do most people grab such an opportunity? Why do most people struggle all through their lives to get such a comfortable life? It is because most people can't see what Buddha could see. That is exactly why Buddha wanted to tell the secret to the entire world.  Buddha asked questions to his charioteer about disease and death. He could have closed his eyes to the suffering of the people and sat happily inside his palace. But he enquired into the nature of death and diseases, the old age and pains thereof. He asked whether anyone can avoid suffering, and came to know that it is not possible to avoid the sufferings of old age, diseases, and death. He was determined to find a solution and therefore delved deeper and deeper into the nature of suffering and its source. His inner journey revealed the secrets that he shared with the whole world. The real cause of suffering is ignorance.  We form ...

A "home" decorated with "bonsai"

Somebody gifted a plant sometime back. When I look at the plant on the Table, it appears to me as if the plant had the potential to grow into a big tree, but we confined the little plant within the limits of the pot, and it has grown strangely. It has a thick stem but has small leaves and branches. We have designed the plants to look the way we like. What "I" want is more important than what the "plant" is. The plant will grow the way "I" like it to grow. And then, "I" would also claim that "I" love the plant.  Yesterday, I went to a coaching institute to get some test series for a competitive exam for my daughter. The guide there spoke for around 40-45 minutes on the risks and chances of getting selected in different competitive examinations. So much competition. Fear is instilled into the minds of the students from the very beginning. Everything is around fear. If they are not able to get enrolment in a professional course , they wi...
