Cartoon Characters in Real life

Sometimes I feel sad looking at the cheap and selfish behavior of many people. The greed of the people has increased to the extent that they are using the nations, organizations, their families, relatives, and friends for their greed. Everyone has become a use case. Not only that, this naked dance of greed has become shameless and they consider themselves entitled to exploit others. Far away from love and harmony, they can go to any extent to perpetuate their self-interest.

However, then comes a different thought. All these people are also part and parcel of the same creation that is taking place within the consciousness. Thus, they have their role to play. The best of the bowlers have their role to play in the growth of the batsman. Similarly, the best batsmen have a role to play in the growth of the bowlers. Not only do the bowlers and batsmen have their role in the growth of a player, but the pitch also has a role to play. If a player always plays on a flat pitch, there will not be any growth. Arjuna could realize his potential only when he fought the battle of Kurukshetra. Probably these imperfect places and people offer great opportunities for growth to all of us.

One interesting thing I have noticed about these people is that they have very fragile egos. They are like overblown balloons and need just a prick of honest talk to puncture them. The problem is that they are surrounded by people with similar self-interests who are incapable of giving these straight talks to them. That is why these balloons keep inflating and to a person who can see through them, they look quite unusual and odd. It's difficult to adjust to the low-level frequencies of these dishonest conversations which are full of insecurities, stupidity, inability to understand the substance, and sycophancy. We are often surprised by the fact that how can people behave so stupidly and stoop to that level.

It becomes interesting when we see these people as a case study. They offer us some of the most interesting case studies. The moment we accept that the purpose of a cricket match is not to make the best of the pitch but to play the best of the game on the available pitch, and while playing the game it does not matter which bowler is throwing the ball at what speed, we start enjoying the game. There would be some players, so insecure that they will try to temper the ball and use unfair practices. There would be some teams that will try to damage the pitch for their advantage. That's what happened in the battle of Kurukshetra also. Krishna showed us the way to handle the situation.

When we observe these characters dispassionately, they are a great source of entertainment. Some look like "Bankelal" who is so short of capability but so full of confidence because the writer of the comic book has made him so.  Some are like "Akbar" making unreasonable demands from "Birbal" and some are like "Birbal" trying to make Akbar understand his stupidity in a witty way. Sometimes it appears that some people are highly inspired by the characters of "Motu and Patlu" and feel that they will solve the problems of the world through whatever stupid solution that looks so innovative to them. I feel that the greatest learning for a person on the path of spirituality is that the world has always been imperfect and will always remain so because these cartoon characters are just a creation of the cartoonist and the sole purpose of that cartoon is fun and entertainment. At the end of the day, it's just a movie screen, and different movies being played on the screen are just the projections on the screen that remain unaffected by any of those scenes, whether comedy or action. Even a horror movie turns into a comedy when we develop a little distance and watch it with a constant realization that it's just a movie.

A Comfortable Life full of Fears

Why did Buddha reject the offer of a comfortable life as a prince from his father? Why do most people grab such an opportunity? Why do most people struggle all through their lives to get such a comfortable life? It is because most people can't see what Buddha could see. That is exactly why Buddha wanted to tell the secret to the entire world.  Buddha asked questions to his charioteer about disease and death. He could have closed his eyes to the suffering of the people and sat happily inside his palace. But he enquired into the nature of death and diseases, the old age and pains thereof. He asked whether anyone can avoid suffering, and came to know that it is not possible to avoid the sufferings of old age, diseases, and death. He was determined to find a solution and therefore delved deeper and deeper into the nature of suffering and its source. His inner journey revealed the secrets that he shared with the whole world. The real cause of suffering is ignorance.  We form ...

A "home" decorated with "bonsai"

Somebody gifted a plant sometime back. When I look at the plant on the Table, it appears to me as if the plant had the potential to grow into a big tree, but we confined the little plant within the limits of the pot, and it has grown strangely. It has a thick stem but has small leaves and branches. We have designed the plants to look the way we like. What "I" want is more important than what the "plant" is. The plant will grow the way "I" like it to grow. And then, "I" would also claim that "I" love the plant.  Yesterday, I went to a coaching institute to get some test series for a competitive exam for my daughter. The guide there spoke for around 40-45 minutes on the risks and chances of getting selected in different competitive examinations. So much competition. Fear is instilled into the minds of the students from the very beginning. Everything is around fear. If they are not able to get enrolment in a professional course , they wi...

Kurukshetra Within Ourselves

I watched the Netflix series Kurukshetra today. It's a wonderfully made series and, in fact, made me recall my childhood series of the Mahabharata that used to be telecast on DD. Mahabharata is magical. The most magical thing about the Mahabharata is that it has no straitjacket definition of Dharma . The entire battle of Kurukshetra is for Dharma, and everybody feels that he is fighting the battle for Dharma.  When Bhishma realises that Vichitravirya needs to be married, he goes to the Swamvara of Amba, Ambika, and Ambalika and forcefully brings them to Hastinapur . Ambika and Ambalika are married to Vichitravirya, while Amba carries out penance to take revenge on Bhishma. Why did Bhishma bring these three girls against their wishes to Hastinapur? If Vichitravirya wanted to marry, he should have shown courage and participated in the Swamvara. After all, Swamvara meant that the girls wanted to marry the most courageous person. Bhishma deprived them of their rights for his attac...
