Driving in a foggy weather with dirty windshield without the awareness of the route

Driving the car in foggy weather is not only quite painful but also life-threatening. Similarly, driving a car without a clear windscreen or knowledge of the route is also equally dangerous and painful. Similarly living life in foggy weather, where we are not sure as to what lies in our unconscious mind and the conscious mind remains confused while making different decisions, is quite a dangerous way of living. We often become inauthentic because we are not aware of what is going on inside our unconscious mind. Similarly, quite often our windscreen is also not clear. We think something and speak something else because we do not have the integrity and courage to take responsibility for what we are. Also, quite often we do not know the route to take. We are so confused between traditions, beliefs, values, morality, and so on, and it's like Google Maps throwing at us so many different suggestions that we are not able to decide which route to take. It is because we miss understanding of the purpose of life.

Unfortunately, we live in a quite insecure society that is passing through a crisis of confidence. It is because it has passed through very difficult periods wherein it has been attacked again and again. It has become rigid and closed as a natural self-defense mechanism. It is not open to questions and dialogue. Society is on its Mount Stupid where it tries to hide its insecurities taking the shield of its glorious past and unable to be open to inquiry in the present. It believes in some half-true stories where the essence is lost and therefore when these stories are told to the young generation, either they reject them completely and adopt the Western civilization and way of living, since they sound more logical, or the comparatively weak minds accept them as it as and just add to the numbers that believe these half-true stories.

Since the people who actually want to enquire are quite a few in number, they are often made a laughing stock by the majority. They are constantly judged and the majority just waits for the slightest slip on their part and they are ready to crucify and poison them. That is the reason why very few dare to waste their precious life challenging the existing understanding of society and to enquire about the truth. That is the reason why while living life and making decisions, we are so confused about the rights and the wrongs. When we do not have clarity about the meaning and purpose of life, how will we make the life decisions? We will take some routes and move some distance to realize that we have taken a wrong route to again take some wrong route to realize the same after some time.

Similarly, when we do not have the clarity of mind, our unconscious mind keeps storing so many stories about reality as told by society. What is right and wrong. In social gatherings, there are so many conflicting thoughts being discussed. There are often conflicting viewpoints about non-vegetarian food being ethical. There are often conflicting views about violence when it comes to war among nations. Telling lies is wrong but the wrong viewpoints of the elder members of the family should not be corrected on their faces. We are told that we should not be greedy but we should come first in the class. We should help others but not our best friend in the class because there is a competition and we have to come first. Daughters are Devis and goddesses but we take dowry in marriages and kill our daughters in the wombs because boys are our social insurance for the old age. Corruption is bad but when it comes to our kids, they should get government jobs so that they can earn corruption money. Parents are happy when their kids bring money from corruption back home. We dislike the people who have VIP treatment but when it comes to us, we immediately boast of being treated as VIPs. All these inauthenticities become integral parts of our characters over a period of time.

With the passage of time, since we are not clear about the purpose of life and become inauthentic, we are not able to maintain integrity. We will come late but will not have the strength of the character to admit that and therefore will make excuses. We would use our friends and relatives to get some favors but will not admit that and pretend that we love them. We will use the closest of our relationships to get comforts, pleasures, and security and pretend that we love them.

Lack of clarity on the purpose of life, authenticity, and integrity has a huge cost to us that we do not realize. We are constantly in a danger zone while living life just like driving car in a foggy weather, with a dirty windshield, and a lack of awareness of the route. We are just waiting for some crisis. Crisis keeps coming to our lives in different forms such as psychosomatic disorders causing chronic health issues, stress, anxiety, depression, crisis in relationships, and so on. Few are intelligent enough to see the crisis in the lives of others and try to gain clarity to avoid crises in their lives. Some do not learn from the crisis of other's lives and wait for the crisis and learn from those crises. Some do not learn even from crises in their lives and keep encountering crises after the crisis. Intelligence demands that we do not wait for the crisis to take place in our lives rather we work on ourselves and make the best use of this wonderful life.

A "home" decorated with "bonsai"

Somebody gifted a plant sometime back. When I look at the plant on the Table, it appears to me as if the plant had the potential to grow into a big tree, but we confined the little plant within the limits of the pot, and it has grown strangely. It has a thick stem but has small leaves and branches. We have designed the plants to look the way we like. What "I" want is more important than what the "plant" is. The plant will grow the way "I" like it to grow. And then, "I" would also claim that "I" love the plant.  Yesterday, I went to a coaching institute to get some test series for a competitive exam for my daughter. The guide there spoke for around 40-45 minutes on the risks and chances of getting selected in different competitive examinations. So much competition. Fear is instilled into the minds of the students from the very beginning. Everything is around fear. If they are not able to get enrolment in a professional course , they wi...

Kurukshetra Within Ourselves

I watched the Netflix series Kurukshetra today. It's a wonderfully made series and, in fact, made me recall my childhood series of the Mahabharata that used to be telecast on DD. Mahabharata is magical. The most magical thing about the Mahabharata is that it has no straitjacket definition of Dharma . The entire battle of Kurukshetra is for Dharma, and everybody feels that he is fighting the battle for Dharma.  When Bhishma realises that Vichitravirya needs to be married, he goes to the Swamvara of Amba, Ambika, and Ambalika and forcefully brings them to Hastinapur . Ambika and Ambalika are married to Vichitravirya, while Amba carries out penance to take revenge on Bhishma. Why did Bhishma bring these three girls against their wishes to Hastinapur? If Vichitravirya wanted to marry, he should have shown courage and participated in the Swamvara. After all, Swamvara meant that the girls wanted to marry the most courageous person. Bhishma deprived them of their rights for his attac...

Is Life all about conforming to the standards?

All of us participate in many meaningless events. Sometimes such meaningless events are organised in the offices, and sometimes in society. We understand that it is a sheer wastage of time and an ugly demonstration of our own lack of character and integrity, and yet we participate in these events. Why? Because we lack the courage and conviction to stand. Why don't we have the courage to stand? Because we are full of fears. Some people are so consumed by fear that they participate in and even glorify these meaningless events. Some will participate and justify them. Some will criticise them and yet participate.  I have seen so many people murmuring that they do not wish to attend the marriage functions , but they have to. It is because they also wish for the presence of a crowd when their kids get married. They consider it to be prestigious. What is prestige? Is it about the numbers attending the party thrown by us? No. If so, let us organise a Bhandara , and there will be thousands ...
