AI and Human Intelligence

One of the biggest debates today is to what extent AI can take over human intelligence. I am not an AI expert, but to the best of my knowledge, AI works on memory. A laptop has limited data available within it but suppose the entire data of the world is stored in a single data warehouse with a very robust search engine and the artificial intelligence works on that data with intelligence to analyze and draw patterns and correlations, the AI can come out with some suggestions that may not be possible for the human mind. The human mind has a very limited RAM and it can keep only very few things at a time on its RAM and that is why its capacity to analyze the possibilities is also very limited. However, AI may have an immense capacity to analyze as compared to the human brain. Probably that is the reason that AI looks so fascinating to the human brain.

Nowadays Chat GPT is being used by many students as well as professionals in their work. Recently one of my colleagues circulated a dialogue prepared by Chat-GPT based on some decision of a court and the AI beautifully summarized the case. Students are happy that their homework is being done at the click of a button. Advocates may be happy using the Chat GPT since it will prepare their submissions before the court after going through all the existing case laws with the most lucid draft. Doctors may be happy that all the diagnostic reports are placed in the AI engine and it comes out with a suggestion on the possible diseases. AI has so many use cases in the world of engineering and robotics. We are able to send the AI-enabled spaceships. We are trying to develop AI-enabled cars. In fact, even today's cars have many AI-enabled features such as driverless parking and so on.

There is no doubt that AI has a use case just like any other tool. However, while using the tool, we need to know its limitations, or else we will land in a soup. AI may be quite good at analyzing data and drawing certain conclusions. However, human intelligence has one crucial element that is not present in AI. Can AI develop the theory of gravity by looking at an apple falling down from a tree? Can AI have emotions such as love and compassion? If that is so, the AI should be able to tell us the nature of the four fundamental forces of nature and their correlation. AI should be able to tell us what is going in the other galaxies. Why do we need to send the missions to Mars, rather AI should be able to tell us everything that exists on Mars. We have to understand that all these capacities are beyond AI. AI can at best be a tool that may be used by human beings to understand the data better. The domain of intuition, love, compassion, and creativity is not a possibility for AI.

The confusion arises because we do not understand how the human brain functions. Even the leading neurologists of the day struggle to understand where is the seat of "I" in the brain. Where is memory stored? There are many theories such as the theory of field which says that the memory is stored in a field and all the fields are connected. I feel that there are two movements in the human brain that keep going in parallel. One is the movement of the "ego" that influences the intellect to make decisions based on past experiences and memories. The other is the movement of the "consciousness" that connects the human intellect to universal possibilities, wisdom, love, and compassion. At the level of consciousness, everything and everybody is connected. In the process of evolution of human beings, the "ego" driven movement will drop and human intelligence will be guided more and more by divine intelligence. AI can't connect to the divine intelligence. That is why it can't experience love and compassion. That's why overreliance on AI is disastrous and only a weak mind, disconnected to the divine, can surrender to AI out of his laziness. The one connected to intuition, love, and compassion will always understand the limitations of AI and place AI in its right place. Their work will always be guided by love, compassion, and wisdom which is an impossibility for the AI to even understand. AI can't write "Life Divine" or "Savitri", rather it can at best prepare an apparently beautiful but perverse copy of these.

Why life is so stressful?

The present-day society is the most comfortable in the entire history of humanity. We have invented machines to carry out work at home, have built highways, can fly conveniently across countries, have comfortable homes, have information of almost every kind at our fingertips, and also have AI to help us make use of the information. Advances in robotics have made many apparently impossible tasks quite easy to perform. Yet, so many countries are at war, people are suffering from psychological disorders, depression, there are broken relationships everywhere, and people are under tremendous stress. What has gone wrong in the process? Why is development not bringing happiness? Because we have chosen "comforts" over "growth". Because we have chosen "fear" over "love". Doesn't that sound strange? Why would somebody choose "fear" over "love"? Probably, we are not aware of it while making these choices. Our unconscious mind process...

A Comfortable Life full of Fears

Why did Buddha reject the offer of a comfortable life as a prince from his father? Why do most people grab such an opportunity? Why do most people struggle all through their lives to get such a comfortable life? It is because most people can't see what Buddha could see. That is exactly why Buddha wanted to tell the secret to the entire world.  Buddha asked questions to his charioteer about disease and death. He could have closed his eyes to the suffering of the people and sat happily inside his palace. But he enquired into the nature of death and diseases, the old age and pains thereof. He asked whether anyone can avoid suffering, and came to know that it is not possible to avoid the sufferings of old age, diseases, and death. He was determined to find a solution and therefore delved deeper and deeper into the nature of suffering and its source. His inner journey revealed the secrets that he shared with the whole world. The real cause of suffering is ignorance.  We form ...

A "home" decorated with "bonsai"

Somebody gifted a plant sometime back. When I look at the plant on the Table, it appears to me as if the plant had the potential to grow into a big tree, but we confined the little plant within the limits of the pot, and it has grown strangely. It has a thick stem but has small leaves and branches. We have designed the plants to look the way we like. What "I" want is more important than what the "plant" is. The plant will grow the way "I" like it to grow. And then, "I" would also claim that "I" love the plant.  Yesterday, I went to a coaching institute to get some test series for a competitive exam for my daughter. The guide there spoke for around 40-45 minutes on the risks and chances of getting selected in different competitive examinations. So much competition. Fear is instilled into the minds of the students from the very beginning. Everything is around fear. If they are not able to get enrolment in a professional course , they wi...
