Inner connection

I am always surprised when I read or listen to Sundar Kanda. How could Hanumana cross the ocean to reach Lanka that nobody from the mainland has ever reached earlier and challenge the most powerful person in the world "Ravana" in his own kingdom? It seems almost an impossibility. However, to make it possible, Hanumana used all the mental and physical faculties. The most important attribute was his flexibility to be small or big, harsh or soft, depending upon the situation.

On the other hand, we often get fixated. We get fixated on our desires and comforts. We find it difficult to work without air conditioning, once we get used to the same. We get used to mobiles and keep looking at the notifications almost every few minutes. We get used to the comforts of home and find it difficult to have tours. We get fixated on the relationships and find it difficult to think of an existence without them. We get fixated on our office and roles in the organization and find it difficult to think of our existence without the organization. Mostly, we get fixated on our self-image, our beliefs, religion, and traditions.

The question worth considering is what gave Hanumana that flexibility that most of us lack? Probably, Hanumana was so connected to Rama that he never had any worldly "ego". He did everything for the sake of Rama. Rama is not an individual but a cosmic consciousness. The consciousness that gives birth to everything in this world. Since he was connected to the source of the creation, nothing in His creation could bind him. It's like somebody establishing a direct connection with the field from which all the matter (bosons and fermions) is taking birth. Once that connection is established, one sees the temporariness of all the matters and with that wisdom and intelligence, there is no question of one getting fixated on the matter.

A fixated mind can't ever imagine the joy of that connection. In the state of fixation on the matter, it stays disconnected from the consciousness. It is like a state where a person has moved away from the Earth and is dependent upon an oxygen cylinder for oxygen. He feels comfortable so long the cylinder has sufficient oxygen failing to realize that it will always be a limited supply. There is a very strong dependency upon the cylinder and that is the reason why he feels that the cylinder is more precious than his life. Unless he returns back to Earth, it is very difficult for him to realize the futility of the cylinder. Once he touches the earth, the first thing he will do is throw away the cylinder. The greatest of the possessions becomes the biggest of the burden.

Hanumana was always on Earth to realize the futility of the cylinder. Most of us have moved away from the Earth and its atmosphere and fighting for oxygen cylinders and people feel that they have a huge godown of cylinders and that's why they are rich and wealthy. We all fail to realize our stupidity. Air is free. Happiness is free. We don't need to make efforts for the same. We just need to stay connected to the air the way Hanumana stayed connected to Rama. It appears that it's a big task. On the contrary, staying disconnected from the air and fighting for oxygen cylinders is a far bigger effort. Staying connected to the consciousness is our basic nature. We move away from this natural state because we lose awareness of that joy. As kids, we are all naturally connected to that consciousness and start getting fixated on our desires. If we remain aware and keep observing what happens as soon as we move away from the atmosphere, we will soon come back to the atmosphere rather than moving away from the same. That is what Hanumana did. He always remained aware of his connection to Rama and never allowed any fixation to take over.

Why life is so stressful?

The present-day society is the most comfortable in the entire history of humanity. We have invented machines to carry out work at home, have built highways, can fly conveniently across countries, have comfortable homes, have information of almost every kind at our fingertips, and also have AI to help us make use of the information. Advances in robotics have made many apparently impossible tasks quite easy to perform. Yet, so many countries are at war, people are suffering from psychological disorders, depression, there are broken relationships everywhere, and people are under tremendous stress. What has gone wrong in the process? Why is development not bringing happiness? Because we have chosen "comforts" over "growth". Because we have chosen "fear" over "love". Doesn't that sound strange? Why would somebody choose "fear" over "love"? Probably, we are not aware of it while making these choices. Our unconscious mind process...

A Comfortable Life full of Fears

Why did Buddha reject the offer of a comfortable life as a prince from his father? Why do most people grab such an opportunity? Why do most people struggle all through their lives to get such a comfortable life? It is because most people can't see what Buddha could see. That is exactly why Buddha wanted to tell the secret to the entire world.  Buddha asked questions to his charioteer about disease and death. He could have closed his eyes to the suffering of the people and sat happily inside his palace. But he enquired into the nature of death and diseases, the old age and pains thereof. He asked whether anyone can avoid suffering, and came to know that it is not possible to avoid the sufferings of old age, diseases, and death. He was determined to find a solution and therefore delved deeper and deeper into the nature of suffering and its source. His inner journey revealed the secrets that he shared with the whole world. The real cause of suffering is ignorance.  We form ...

A "home" decorated with "bonsai"

Somebody gifted a plant sometime back. When I look at the plant on the Table, it appears to me as if the plant had the potential to grow into a big tree, but we confined the little plant within the limits of the pot, and it has grown strangely. It has a thick stem but has small leaves and branches. We have designed the plants to look the way we like. What "I" want is more important than what the "plant" is. The plant will grow the way "I" like it to grow. And then, "I" would also claim that "I" love the plant.  Yesterday, I went to a coaching institute to get some test series for a competitive exam for my daughter. The guide there spoke for around 40-45 minutes on the risks and chances of getting selected in different competitive examinations. So much competition. Fear is instilled into the minds of the students from the very beginning. Everything is around fear. If they are not able to get enrolment in a professional course , they wi...
