Gravity of the Routine

We see so many people behaving quite erratically all around us. In fact, it appears that everybody is either exploiting or getting exploited. I get surprised to see why people do not "live and let others live". Probably, there is a fundamental problem in the way we are brought up, in fact, the way the entire society moves ahead. We are a society driven by so many fears. The fear of poverty, disrespect, exploitation, death, diseases, and so on. Inequality is so widely spread in the society. A society where few people can flaunt spending thousands of crores in the marriage of their kids, moving around in luxury cars and private jets, and owning homes worth thousands of crores. On the other hand, the majority of us are dependent on government schemes for very basic needs such as food.

In such an unequal society, both the rich and the poor have great fears. The poor have fears of survival. They are not sure whether they are going to get food and shelter. They are not sure of medical treatment as and when they fall ill. The rich have the fear of becoming poor. In fact, they are so afraid that they get obsessed with accumulation. They want to accumulate more and more money. Money for the present generation, and many future generations. There is no end to this greed. In order to get more and more money, they want more business and for that purpose, they need power. That is why power becomes another fixation.

However, the more money and power these riches acquire, the more they feel empty inside. This is because of the simple reason that money and power can satisfy our basic needs of food, clothes, shelter, comforts, and pleasure. However, we human beings have a far greater purpose. We are here to explore our potential. We have been given a body and brain with immense capacity and unless we explore the body and the brain to their fullest potential, we will never feel fulfilled.

For example, different tools for farming are used by the farmers. These tools are essential for farming. Similarly, we have been given the two tools viz the body and brain to live life. As a farmer needs to take care of the tools, similarly, we need to take care of the body and the brain. We need to make them comfortable and take good care of them. However, merely taking care of the tools will not result in the production of the crops. The farmer needs to work hard with the tools. Similarly, we human beings are not going to get fulfillment in our lives just by taking good care of the body and brain, enjoying sensual pleasures, and living in comfort. That is just the starting point and there is a long road to travel.

Somehow in this society, everybody is busy accumulating more and more tools and nobody wants to put them to use. It seems pure madness to me. This madness will continue to exist since the number of people who use their bodies and minds to do something fulfilling is quite low. There are hardly any role models for the youngsters to look forward to. There are few in the society who used their tools and soon they are given the name of Gods. We pray to Mahatma Gandhi and Buddha, probably, as a conspiracy to create some artificial division between these enlightened people and ourselves so as to justify that we need not use our bodies and minds to their fullest potential.

It’s difficult to gather the escape velocity against the gravity of routine life. It is so widespread and pervasive across cultures and societies. Wherever we go, people are engrossed in worldly pleasures. A rocket requires great thrust to get the velocity to cross the field of gravity of the Earth. Similarly, we too require the right direction and thrust to get past the routine. We need constant efforts with firm determination to get the initial thrust. We need the guidance of the seers and sages to get in the right direction. Fortunately, in the world of the internet, most of the books written by realized souls are freely available over the internet. However, the most important element in the process is the awareness of the goal. If the rocket loses awareness of the destination, it will reach nowhere. Awareness helps us get rid of the impact of gravity. We do not get fixated on worldly matters and are able to place them in their true place. That allows us space to put our body and mind to the best use. The satellite can float freely in the orbit around the divine, once it crosses the field of gravity.

Why life is so stressful?

The present-day society is the most comfortable in the entire history of humanity. We have invented machines to carry out work at home, have built highways, can fly conveniently across countries, have comfortable homes, have information of almost every kind at our fingertips, and also have AI to help us make use of the information. Advances in robotics have made many apparently impossible tasks quite easy to perform. Yet, so many countries are at war, people are suffering from psychological disorders, depression, there are broken relationships everywhere, and people are under tremendous stress. What has gone wrong in the process? Why is development not bringing happiness? Because we have chosen "comforts" over "growth". Because we have chosen "fear" over "love". Doesn't that sound strange? Why would somebody choose "fear" over "love"? Probably, we are not aware of it while making these choices. Our unconscious mind process...

Adding a Third Dimension to Life

We face various conflicts in our lives. Whether to play with friends or concentrate on studies is one of the most common conflicts of the students which has now been replaced with a conflict between the concentration on studies and spending time on social media and mobile. Adults often have trouble establishing a work-life balance. These conflicts are the reflection of the ongoing struggle between comforts and ambitions. We get some comfort due to the stars in our horoscope, we are born with, or our past efforts. Some choose to enjoy these comforts and pleasures while some delay gratification, constantly move along the X-axis, and have a very linear view of life. Others choose to work hard for their ambitions and give away the pleasures and comforts, move along the Y-axis, and have a "two-dimensional view of life". They grow in worldly terms and that is the reason why they occupy the best of positions, become industrialists and intellectuals, and develop the capacity to look...

A Comfortable Life full of Fears

Why did Buddha reject the offer of a comfortable life as a prince from his father? Why do most people grab such an opportunity? Why do most people struggle all through their lives to get such a comfortable life? It is because most people can't see what Buddha could see. That is exactly why Buddha wanted to tell the secret to the entire world.  Buddha asked questions to his charioteer about disease and death. He could have closed his eyes to the suffering of the people and sat happily inside his palace. But he enquired into the nature of death and diseases, the old age and pains thereof. He asked whether anyone can avoid suffering, and came to know that it is not possible to avoid the sufferings of old age, diseases, and death. He was determined to find a solution and therefore delved deeper and deeper into the nature of suffering and its source. His inner journey revealed the secrets that he shared with the whole world. The real cause of suffering is ignorance.  We form ...
