Battle to Conrtol

The entire battle of Kurukshetra was fought due to Duryodhana's selfishness. Had Duryodhana given just five villages to Pandavas, the battle would not have been fought. The best of the realized souls, including Krishna himself, could not prevent the battle. Harmony and systems could not be established in a period when there was only one greedy Duryodhana. How can systems and harmony be established in a period when the world is full of so many Duryodhanas.

Any greedy person, like Duryodhana, is very insecure and seeks control. Not so that Duryodhana would have had any discomfort by handing over five villages to Pandavas. But his mental obsession with the kingdom was so strong that he could not tolerate the thought of parting with a few villages. Buddha said that the most unfortunate human beings are those who have been bestowed with a lot of material possessions while have not matured spiritually. They are like the people placed in the best position in a limited frame, while unable to realize that the frame itself is limited and there is a whole lot of world beyond that frame. The whole of the world prays Krishna and Duryodhana did not recognize him and tried to even imprison him when he went to Hastinapur in his last attempt to prevent the battle. Duryodhana rejected everything that lay outside his limited frame of greed and possession. He rejected love, compassion, and awareness.

Limited awareness of the existence outside the frame and obsession with the frame are the worst possible combinations for the growth the a human being. Duryodhana is happy inside the frame. He has been made the king of Hastinapur without any ability. Since he has acquired the position without commensurate abilities, he looks at the Pandavas and becomes insecure. Pandavas are full of love and compassion and that is why they are praised everywhere for their abilities and behaviour. On the other hand, Duryodhana is criticized everywhere due to his cruelty and lack of sensitivity. Since Duryodhana has never learned to break free of his frame and is quite comfortable within the limited frame he has been brought up with, he obviously becomes insecure and tries to become the king of Hastinapur by hook or crook and to retain that indefinitely. Out of these insecurities, he tries to control everything around him.

One Duryodhana pushed the entire country to the battle of Kurukshetra. In today's world, full of Duryodhanas in every nook and corner, it is quite difficult to think of having systems and harmony. Control and systems do not go hand in hand. Systems are based on trust and sensible expectations. A person, who is full of fear inside, can only spread fear and unhappiness. On the other hand, with limited awareness, it is quite difficult for us to understand the play of consciousness and the cause behind these phases. Pandavas had to pass through all the phases of Vanavasa and Ajnatvasa to prepare them for a better and wider role. They had to experience the lowest-evolved human beings to help people become aware and grow. That is where the teaching of Krishna can guide our actions. Since we are not aware of the larger frame we have to operate in, while operating in the smaller frame, we just have to do the "Swadharma" and leave the results to the almighty. We just have to decide whether we want to side with Kauravas or Pandavas

A Comfortable Life full of Fears

Why did Buddha reject the offer of a comfortable life as a prince from his father? Why do most people grab such an opportunity? Why do most people struggle all through their lives to get such a comfortable life? It is because most people can't see what Buddha could see. That is exactly why Buddha wanted to tell the secret to the entire world.  Buddha asked questions to his charioteer about disease and death. He could have closed his eyes to the suffering of the people and sat happily inside his palace. But he enquired into the nature of death and diseases, the old age and pains thereof. He asked whether anyone can avoid suffering, and came to know that it is not possible to avoid the sufferings of old age, diseases, and death. He was determined to find a solution and therefore delved deeper and deeper into the nature of suffering and its source. His inner journey revealed the secrets that he shared with the whole world. The real cause of suffering is ignorance.  We form ...

A "home" decorated with "bonsai"

Somebody gifted a plant sometime back. When I look at the plant on the Table, it appears to me as if the plant had the potential to grow into a big tree, but we confined the little plant within the limits of the pot, and it has grown strangely. It has a thick stem but has small leaves and branches. We have designed the plants to look the way we like. What "I" want is more important than what the "plant" is. The plant will grow the way "I" like it to grow. And then, "I" would also claim that "I" love the plant.  Yesterday, I went to a coaching institute to get some test series for a competitive exam for my daughter. The guide there spoke for around 40-45 minutes on the risks and chances of getting selected in different competitive examinations. So much competition. Fear is instilled into the minds of the students from the very beginning. Everything is around fear. If they are not able to get enrolment in a professional course , they wi...

Kurukshetra Within Ourselves

I watched the Netflix series Kurukshetra today. It's a wonderfully made series and, in fact, made me recall my childhood series of the Mahabharata that used to be telecast on DD. Mahabharata is magical. The most magical thing about the Mahabharata is that it has no straitjacket definition of Dharma . The entire battle of Kurukshetra is for Dharma, and everybody feels that he is fighting the battle for Dharma.  When Bhishma realises that Vichitravirya needs to be married, he goes to the Swamvara of Amba, Ambika, and Ambalika and forcefully brings them to Hastinapur . Ambika and Ambalika are married to Vichitravirya, while Amba carries out penance to take revenge on Bhishma. Why did Bhishma bring these three girls against their wishes to Hastinapur? If Vichitravirya wanted to marry, he should have shown courage and participated in the Swamvara. After all, Swamvara meant that the girls wanted to marry the most courageous person. Bhishma deprived them of their rights for his attac...
